Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Family Mortuary - Alamosa on Jun. 28, 2023.
Dennis Michael Krout, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 21, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 82, with his wife, Sally, by his side.
Denny was born on January 14, 1941, in
Greeley, Colorado to Bud and Marion Krout, and he grew up alongside his two sisters, Donna and Neje. He graduated from Alamosa High School in 1959, then moved to Durango and completed one year at Fort Lewis College.
Not wanting to be far from his high school sweetheart, Sally, who was in Alamosa, Denny moved back, and in the summer of 1960, they were married. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the
Manti, Utah temple in 1965. Together, they were blessed with four children: Larry (Keri), David (Jeannie), Tami (Eric) DeGolyer and Jana (Bo) Pierce.
Denny owned a wholesale food company for 10 years before going into business with his father, Bud. They operated B&D's Norge Village laundromat and Alamosa Laundry and Dry Cleaning. Denny also owned seven residential rental properties.
Denny received his bachelor's degree in special education and physical education from Adams State College in 1972. He taught at Gunnison High School for one year and was a substitute teacher at Alamosa High School for many years.
Denny served faithfully in various positions within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved working with the youth. Alongside his wife, he completed a full-time mission in Kentucky and later served a mission at the Bishop's Storehouse in Albuquerque. He exemplified working hard, serving others, keeping his word, putting his family first, and having a great sense of humor.
Basketball held a special place in Denny's heart. He loved playing the sport and watching his children and grandchildren compete, never missing a game. Denny also had a deep appreciation for cars, owning more than 30 cars and trucks throughout his life, meticulously hand washing and waxing each one. Among his favorites were his 1931 yellow Model A Roadster, 1950 black Oldsmobile, 1965 red Mustang Convertible, and his last ride, 1996 white Mustang Saleen.
Denny and Sally loved spending time with family in the Colorado mountains, where they owned a beautiful property for 21 years. Together, they loved working on projects, serving in the temple, playing card games, and dancing to '50s music.
Denny is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Marion, his sister Donna, his sons Larry and David, and his grandchild Alexi. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Sally, his sister Neje, his brother-in-law Raymond Wheeler, his daughters Tami and Jana, 20 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Denny's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, and we take comfort in the knowledge that we will be reunited with him in the future.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Third and Richardson in Alamosa. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 11:00 am also at the church with interment following in the Alamosa Cemetery.
