Dennis was born on June 15, 1943 in Marshalltown, IA. The son of Leonard and Charlotte McCool. On September 1, 1963 he married the love of his life Mary Jane McCool. Dennis graduated from Boone High School. He worked of the US Navy for over 28 years combined civil service & active duty on nuclear submarines. He ended his career as a Chief test nuclear engineer at Mare Island Naval Station in California. He was dedicated to his work and proud to be part of the armed forces. There was always a US flag flying in the front of the house.
Dennis loved his family and did all he could to support them. He was a great husband and father to Michael and Christopher. He had eight grandkids and numerous great-grandkids. He was survived by his two boys Michael of South Carolina and Christopher of Minnesota.
Dennis loved to be in the basement doing different woodworking projects with his best friend and brother Gary. Some real pieces of art were made in that basement by the two of them. He had a passion for the outdoors and fished as much as possible. Late in life car rides in the parks, deer watching, & band concerts were some of his favorite times.He was a strong, intelligent, & loving man that will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Squire Boone Cemetery.
