Dennis M. McNiff, Sr., 78, of Marshfield, passed away on May 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dennis was born and raised in South Boston, MA and was a graduate of English High School. His early career was spent in Boston and Virginia Beach as a traffic manager coordinating shipping containers in port, while his later years (and up until retirement) were spent in the Town of Hanover as a school custodian.
Dennis is predeceased by his wife, Karen M. (Ryan) McNiff, his parents Peter J. and Anna C. McNiff (Bartas), as well as siblings Sr. Marie Paula S.N.D., James and Ruth.
Dennis is survived by his three children, Dennis McNiff, Jr. of Fairbanks, AK, Timothy McNiff of Marshfield and Amanda Chisholm and her husband, Rick, of East Bridgewater. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Abby, Julie and Jonathan, all from East Bridgewater, whom he shared a special bond with and was well known as their "Buppy". His grandchildren were the light of his life. Dennis is also survived by his siblings, Patricia Finn of Braintree and Robert McNiff of South Boston.
Dennis was an avid sports fan, most notably a hometown New England supporter. He loved all things Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. He was known for his pre-season predictions and commentaries ranging from who would make the championship games and what players were "done for the season". He knew it all and wasn't typically wrong. However, when it came to sports, his greatest love and passion was watching his granddaughter, Julie, pitch. He was so proud to sit on the sidelines and say who his granddaughter was.
Dennis always had a witty and sarcastic charm to him, from his mannerisms and expressions to his everyday funny names he had for everything and everyone. He also never wanted others to worry about him, he would handle the cards he was dealt, and rarely asked for help. We will miss his genuine and heartfelt love, appreciation and wholehearted dedication to his family that even cancer could not take from him.
"Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean we'll miss you until we meet again."
The family will hold a private celebration of life for Dennis at a later date.
