Dennis Mikula Sr.

Dennis Mikula, Sr., 66, of North Caldwell, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Born in Passaic, Dennis was raised in Clifton, where he resided until moving to North Caldwell in 2000. He was a 1973 graduate of Clifton High School. Dennis was captain of the school's 1972 undefeated football team, which was inducted into the Clifton High School Hall of Fame.
Dennis was President and owner of Mikula Contracting, Inc. of Clifton, a company founded by his late father, Nick Mikula, Sr. Dennis assumed leadership of the company in the early 1980s and was the driving force behind its growth and recent success, which includes being named a "New Jersey Family Business of the Year" for 2020 by Fairleigh Dickinson University's Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Mikula Contracting wholeheartedly embraces the "family" part of "family business," employing both of Dennis's sons, a brother, and a brother-in-law, along with many others who are not technically relatives but who are family nonetheless. As he is quoted in a profile of Mikula Contracting that was published in Clifton Merchant magazine in January 2021, "What's better in this world than working with your family?"
As the proud owner of a third-generation, family-owned contracting firm, Dennis dedicated his time and talent throughout his career to various organizations that support the broader contracting industry, as well as small and family-owned businesses generally, including New Jersey Land Improvement Contractors of America (NJLICA), New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA), and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). A sportsman and Cliftonian at heart for life, he was active with the Clifton Lacrosse Club, Clifton Jr. Mustangs Football Club, and Clifton Northern Little League Baseball.
Also close to Dennis's heart was the town of Point Pleasant Beach, where he and his wife have a vacation home and where they shared too many good times to count with their extended family and many wonderful friends.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Joan E. (nee Boyle) Mikula, and his brother, Nicholas Mikula, Jr., M.D.
Survivors include: his beloved wife, Cynthia (née Wieczerzak); two sons, Dennis Mikula, Jr. and his wife, Diana, and Ryan Mikula; three grandchildren, Lucy Mikula and Ryan and Jeremy Mikula; his brother, Andrew Mikula and his wife, Nancy; and his sister-in-law, Cornelia Mikula.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Please meet at church. Interment to follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair.
