Dennis Smith

December 11, 2025 at the age of 80. Predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Marie (Lyon) Smith; mother and father-in-law, Catherine and Charles Fillmore; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hines, Lois (Vince) Chorney. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Clare Fillmore Smith; children, Karen (Michael) Furst, Kevin Smith, Brian (Wendy) Smith, Kristen (Eric) Mellinger; grandchildren, Kelly Furst, Timothy Furst, Allison Furst, Brian Berthiaume, Cody Berthiaume, Madeline Smith, Julia Mellinger, Sean Mellinger; brothers, Douglas (Johanna) Smith, David Smith; brothers-in-law, John Hines, William Fillmore; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Joseph) Merriam; several nieces and nephews.
After earning degrees from the University of Detroit, Dennis began a dedicated 30-year career as a Mechanical Engineer with Xerox Corporation. Dennis enjoyed traveling, golfing, and landscaping. Always an engineer, he loved to work around his home and design improvement projects. Most of all he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren attending various sporting events and performances. He will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Services will be held at St. Mary Church (224 Franklin Street, Elmira, NY) on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 10:00AM. Interment at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in Elmira, NY following the service.
