We are so sorry to hear of Derek's passing. I am Joe Wise and Jean Cavenaugh-Wise's niece from Ohio. We spent some time with Derek in Westfield, including the St. Patrick's Day parade, Sons of Erin and dinner at The Westwood. Also got to know Derek at the funerals of Jean and Joe. I pray for your strength as you and the family go forward during this terribly sad time.

Derek and I worked together as teenagers in Westfield. Only recently, I've been searching for him, how sad I am that I didn't find him sooner. We shared so many smiles in our innocent youth in Westfield. I'm sorry to all the people who loved this kind man.- Dennis Akins, Westfield, MA

I worked for Derek for ten years at Dodge Crossing and we quickly became friends, then more like siblings. We confided in each other and supported each other through some difficult times. We worked hard and had lots of laughs and those are the times I will always remember. My thoughts and prayers to Derek, Jess, Laura and John. Derek will always be in my heart. Rest in peace, Derek. I love you. Always...

I've actually known of Derek my whole life. I was able to think of him as family when his mother Jean Cavanaugh married my uncle Joe Wise. Derek was so kind and loving to my uncle after his mother passed away. My son and I visited Derek at his Buzzards Bay home in Westport a couple of years ago and had a lovely dinner and wonderful conversation about family. That was the last time I saw him and am so happy to have this memory. Sending my condolences.

I knew Derek at Mount Hermon -- a class act. Really smart, really thoughtful, a good person.
