Derek Matthew Jackson Bush

Derek Matthew Jackson Bush, known to many simply as Bushy, was a lover of life and all its wild, beautiful chaos. He was born to Dedra (Jackson) Bush and the late Tom Bush. Along with his mother, Derek is survived by his sister, Steffanie Bush and what he was most proud of: His children. His boys, Gage, Cole, Trevor, Ethen, and Mickey; his only daughter, Natalia, and his grandson Bentley. From a young age, Derek was impossible to miss and even harder to keep up with. His spirit was restless, his stories legendary, and his heart too big for his own good. Though he settled into construction work as his trade, he didn't limit himself to just one path in life. Over the years, Derek tried his hand at everything from exotic dancing to a shrimp boat deckhand. His career choices, like his life, were always unexpected and a little outrageous, and he approached each new adventure with the same fierce energy. For all his laughter and wild stories, Derek had a tender soul. In his later years, he found himself on a path he hadn't planned and couldn't escape, one that dimmed his once-brilliant light. Addiction has a way of stealing the most beautiful pieces of a person, and in Derek's case, it took someone truly one of a kind. In memory of Derek, we ask you to love your own addicts a little louder, hold them a little closer, and never miss a chance to tell them what they mean to you. For those of us who no longer can, we wish, as the song goes, that they were still here. How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl, year after year.."
