Derek McMillen, 43, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Derek was a man who fought with unmatched courage and strength throughout his life. Derek’s journey wasn’t easy. After a tragic car accident left him paralyzed, he spent many years of his life facing immense challenges—challenges that would have broken so many, but not Derek. He fought every day, proving that strength isn’t just about what you can do physically, but about the resilience of the heart and spirit.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William McMillen and Hattie McMillen; and step-dad, Jeff Browning.
Derek was a dedicated father to his two sons, Aaron and Ethan; he is also survived by his mother, Theresa Lawrence; father, Kenneth Moore; sisters, Kristina Vinson (Morgan), Crystal Browning, Kayla Moore, and Megan Moore; brother, Zachary Moore; step-mom, Melissa Troutman; and many extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Derek's life at a visitation on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive).
Derek was a loving family member who was ALWAYS there to lift others up. Despite the hardship he faced, his love for his boys, his mom, his family, and his friends was a constant. To leave a memory of Derek or a condolence for the family, please use the "Guest Book" option below.
