Dewey M. Ramey

Dewey M. Ramey, of Springfield, peacefully went to his heavenly home on June 26, 2025.
Dewey was born on July 21, 1931 to Bon and Phyllis Ramey in Fair Grove, Missouri.
Known for his smile and kind demeanor, Dewey was voted "most friendly" by his classmates at Fair Grove High School, where he graduated in 1949.
He married his beloved high school sweetheart, Nathalie Thomas, in 1951. They welcomed a daughter, Leasha, in 1955. They spent 65 years together before Nathalie's passing in 2016, and their marriage was a wonderful example to everyone who knew them.
Dewey worked as an industrial insulator and was involved in major projects such as Hammons Center and Fort Leonard Wood.
He proudly served in the United States Army in the Korean War for 18 months as a tank gunner. After the war he was in the army reserves until his discharge in August 1960.
In his free time Dewey enjoyed working on cars and tractors, and he could fix anything. His faith and love for God was the driving force of his life, and he was an active member of Crossway Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents, Bon and Phyllis; wife, Nathalie; and daughter, Leasha Bear.
He is survived by his son-in-law, Jerry Bear; grandchildren, Justin Bear, Jessica Smelcer, and husband Rylan Smelcer; and great grandchildren Reggie and Holden Smelcer.
Dewey was truly one of a kind- his family and friends will deeply miss his kindness, generosity, and joy for life. However, we take comfort in knowing he is with our Lord and we will see our "Papa" again one day.
Services will be held at Crossway Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 8 with a visitation at 10am and funeral to follow at 11am.
