Diane Kathryn Kravitz, 82, of Smyrna, DE, passed peacefully at home on April 5, 2024, with family by her side. She had a brief battle with ALS, only being diagnosed in December.
Diane was born September 15, 1941, in Sherburn, MN. She was the oldest of nine children born to Robert and Irene (Gersch) Lutterman. She grew up on a farm and, as the oldest child, she played a major role in caring for her younger brothers and sisters. While in high school, Diane starred in the class play, was the co-editor of the school paper, participated in the chorus, and played in both the school and marching bands. Diane graduated high school early at the age of 16 and went on to complete 2 years of college.
In the early '60s, Diane moved to Seattle, Washington where she met her husband, John. They were married on April 17, 1970. Diane and John moved multiple times, living in the Midwest, East Coast, and even Spain, while raising their family. She spent the majority of her life working for various law firms as a secretary and office manager.
Diane was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She particularly loved her grandkids and would shower them with hugs and kisses every chance she got. She lived her life with unwavering optimism, and you rarely saw her without a smile. To know Diane was to love her; her happy and fun-loving nature was truly infectious. No one was immune to her charms. She made friends wherever she went and would talk to anyone – even a complete stranger. She was the life of the party wherever she went, and no one would be surprised if she was up in Heaven asking someone to make her a Rum and Coke.
As an avid card player, with hand and foot being a favorite, you could always count on Diane to be up for any and all games. When she wasn't working, keeping house, or spending time with family, you would most often find her with a book in her hand. In addition to reading, she loved ironing. No one on this planet loved ironing like she did; she found it very relaxing and fulfilling. The angels' robes will be starched and finely pressed from now on!
Diane was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Irene Lutterman, brother Dennis Lutterman, brother-in-law Gary Buckmeier, sister-in-law Della Lutterman, niece Alison Lutterman, mother-in-law Betty Hutchings, father-in-law Robert Hutchings, and many other relatives and friends. Diane is survived by her husband, John; her children, Mark Hoye, Shawn (Virginia) Hoye, Christina Kravitz, and Carolyn (Bill) Doughten; her grandchildren, Patrick (Shae) Hoye, Matthew (Dolly) Hoye, Sarah (Matt) Storck, Tyler Hoye, Christopher Denver, and Jaxon Doughten; her great-grandchildren, Jaden Hoye, Noah Storck, and Lily Hoye; seven siblings and spouses; John's sister; and many other family members.
