Diane Patrice Schmidt (Alexsy), passed away peacefully in hospice care, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the age of 77. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 56 years, Russ; children: Jen (Joe) Redmond, Beth (Kevin) Kennedy, and Mike Schmidt; grandchildren: Katie, Emily, and Keira; sister, Darlene (Ron) Pate; sister-in-law, Sandy Schmidt; as well as numerous relatives and dear friends.
Diane was born in Dearborn, MI and was a graduate of Divine Child High School. She and Russ married in the spring of 1967 and together, started their family. Diane was a great homemaker. Once all three children were in school full time, she began working as an Executive Assistant at Merrill Lynch, determined to help her kids earn their college degrees, for which they are forever grateful.
Diane went to great lengths to talk through everything and make sure everyone was always taken care of and supported. She boundlessly gave of herself whether it was her time, friendship, guidance, or love. She was a good person and a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, and friend. She always had a lot of good stories to tell, a pearl of wisdom to share, and a great sense of humor. She loved watching the Red Wings or a good Hallmark movie with Russ, taking walks for exercise or just to have an adventure with her grandchildren, good conversation, spending time with family and friends, a fun lunch out that included a club sandwich and a Dr. Pepper, phone calls with her twin sister, overnights with the grandkids, trying her luck at the casino, Christmas morning breakfasts, fishing, spending time at Houghton Lake as a kid, and bowling with her bestfriend, JoAnne.
She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
To honor Diane's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Her family invites you to donate to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
