Dolores "Dody" Gast Lambert savored every bite of her 85 years before leaving us in body, never in spirit, on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia. Born in New Orleans in 1940 and a lifelong resident of Metairie, she embodied the Louisiana tradition of family, food and fun in every season of her life.
Her love and memory live on through her daughter, Sally Lambert Kolb (Steven), her son, Michael George Lambert (Butch), and her grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Kolb and Jonathan P. Kolb (Rochelle). She is remembered alongside her husband of 52 years, George R. Lambert III, her parents George P. Gast and Dardenelle Z. Gast, and her brothers Lawrence (Larry) Gast and George (Georgie) Gast.
A proud graduate of East Jefferson High School, Dody spent 26 years at Airline Park Elementary, first as an assistant P.E. teacher and later as secretary. She was a long-standing member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, singing in the Chancel Choir for many years. Alongside her husband, George, she was a familiar face at the Louisiana Plumbing Association, the Masonic Temple, the Jerusalem Temple Clown Unit, and the Rotary Club of New Orleans, where she received the Paul Harris Award.
Dody embraced her hobbies with the same passion and sweetness she shared with everyone in her life. Music, books, gardening tools and fishing poles were some of her favorite accessories. She loved an adventure, whether it was a picnic, an opera, or-thanks to her son and his husband-a drag show or an all-male revue. She lingered over dessert, laughed often and out loud, and reminded those around her that life is meant to be enjoyed together. She had a gift for making any moment an occasion, usually with a glass of Glenfiddich or Johnnie Walker in hand.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Decatur Christian Towers, A.G. Rhodes, Medlock Gardens, and the nurses and doctors at Emory Hospital for the care and compassion they showed Dody in her final years.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dody's life on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, located at 4900 Airline Drive,
Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. -2:00 p.m. followed by services at 2:00 p.m. Internment will follow.
If you'd like to celebrate Dody, do it the way she lived: gather with people you love, raise a glass, and always say yes to dessert.
