Dolores Ley, age 80, passed away peacefully at the Compassion Home in Fremont, Michigan on November 6, 2024.
She is proceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Emma Ley, and her son Curt Portenga. She is survived by her very loved dog Precious and her three siblings; Diana (Moore) David, Rick (Sharon) Ley, Stuart (Rose) Ley, her three children; Scott (Lisa) Portenga, Kim (Hector) Melendez, Lee Ann (Steve) Clor, grandchildren; Amanda, Brooke, Drew, Raelynn, Rachel, Fiona, Liam, Desmond, and Jordyn. Dolores loved her family and getting everyone together to share a meal.
Dolores was very independent and adventurous and loved to make people laugh. She owned a party store on M-37 for many years, where she loved her customers and putting her kids to work. She drove semi for several years all across the United States. Driving is something she loved to do. For the last 10 years, she moved to Newaygo to be closer to family. Never sitting long, she began to drive for Mast Mini Barns. Working there, she picked up several employees and got them to work ON TIME, never late. She drove for several other Amish families and considered them all her extended family. A special thank you to Marlan, Rachel, and their beautiful family, Fanny Wagler, Lydia Mast for showing her so much love, especially in her final days.
As her wishes stated, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Crandell Funeral Home - White Cloud Chapel from 10:00am - 11:00am on Saturday, November 16th with a celebration of life to follow at 11:00am. The family wishes to invite friends to a luncheon following the service at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Compassion Home in Fremont, Michigan. They took such good care of her and provided a wonderful environment for family and friends to say goodbye. True angels in our community. Also a thank you to hospice for helping to keep her safe and pain free. She will be greatly missed, and her memory will live on.
