Don Spreng Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Lindsey Chapel on Feb. 16, 2025.
PERRYSVILLE: Don "Dude" Floyd Spreng passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in Brethren Care Village, surrounded by his family at the age of 81.
He was born on April 9, 1943, in Ashland, Ohio, to parents Walter & Monna (Miller) Spreng, and graduated from Loudonville High School with the class of 1961. Dude married Sally Zody on December 4, 1971, and the pair raised two daughters together. They were married for 45 years until Sally's passing in 2017.
Throughout the years, Dude worked for Hanover Township, was a self-employed truck driver, and retired from the Ashland County Highway Department in 2002. He was a volunteer fireman for the Green-Perrysville Joint Fire Department for many years. During that period, he served for a time as Assistant Chief and most recently he was a member on the GPJFD Board. His farm boy roots ran deep and to get his farming fix he worked at Ayers Farms.
In his spare time, Dude took pleasure in visiting and spending time with family and friends. He always looked forward to the annual Spreng Reunion and never turned down a chance to go for an airplane ride. As a young man, he enjoyed his time on the Spreng Family Farm. When the work was finished, he would take his Oliver to the tractor pulls or his car to the racetrack. In the winter, he would prepare for ice skating parties and other shenanigans. As a young married man, his house was the place where all his truck driving friends would gather on the weekends. Dude always enjoyed a good breakfast and the fellowship that came with it. Whether it was at JR's with Gloria and Kelly or at the Fire Station with Dale, Denny, and Charlie, the coffee and sausage gravy were always flowing. In his later years, he would enjoy breakfast each morning at Wedgewing with the guys, where he would catch up on all the latest happenings.
He is survived by his daughters Stacie (Joe Metzger) White and Jill (Jamie) Book; grandchildren Brooke (Matt) Stapleton and Joshua, Jenna, and Josie Book; great-grandson Hudson Stapleton; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and many breakfast buddies from Perrysville and the Wedgewing Restaurant.
In addition to his parents, Dude was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Spreng; his siblings, Lawrence, Charles, and Betsy Spreng; and his son-in-law, Jeffrey White.
The Spreng family will receive friends on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 1 to 3 & 5 to 7 p.m. in the Snyder Funeral Home- Lindsey Chapel, Loudonville. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Rob Paterson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Perrysville.
Contributions in Dude's memory may be made to the Green-Perrysville Joint Fire District at the funeral home.
