Donald Ray Allen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father on January 12, 2024. Don was born on March 23, 1946, to Elden William and Verna Winter in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised in Salt Lake City, where he attended school. Don graduated from Murray High School in 1964.

Following High School, he voluntarily served his country in the US Army as a radio/teletype operator for two consecutive tours during the Vietnam War.

After returning from Vietnam, Don worked various jobs, including insulation and truck driving. He married his first wife and had five children: Rick, David, Maurisa, Rob, and Melinda.

Don continued His military service with the Idaho National Guard in 1982, where he eventually attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. While deployed to a forest fire in Salmon, Idaho, Don met Linda Hutchings, who was working as a firefighter for the Forest Service. The two hit it off and eventually married in 1985. They were sealed a year later in the Jordan River temple.

After marrying Linda, Don got a job with the Bureau of Land Management, where he worked for 25+ years as an equipment operator and fleet manager before retiring. During this time, Don and Linda raised their three sons, Travis, Trent, and Trevor, in Magna, Utah.

Later in his life, Don served in several Church callings, including Ward Financial Clerk, High Priest Group Secretary, and the Young Men’s Presidency. Don had many friends in the two wards he attended while living in Magna, including the Lakeridge 14th Ward and Lakeridge 2nd Ward.

Don is survived by his children Travis (Amanda), Trent (Morgan Sites), Trevor (Jamie), Rick, David, Maurisa, Rob, and Melinda. Fifteen grandchildren Kaylee, Oakley, Audrey, Parker, Elsie, Emilee, Chandler, Blaire, Meredith, Olivia, Sterling, JD, Ian, Melea, and Jessica. His siblings LaMont (Judy) Allen, Dale (Christie) Allen, Kenny (Marsha) Allen, Janice (Jim) England, Galyne (Gary) Olsen, Colleen (Darrell) Aubrey, and sister-in-law Linda. His wife Linda Hutchings, his parents, Elden and Verna Allen, and his brother Bryan Allen preceded him in death.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff at Legacy House of Taylorsville and the compassionate care provided by Inspiration Hospice during Don's last six months.
