Donald J. Bothern, 92, Flandreau, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Riverview Healthcare Center, Flandreau. Don was born on November 22, 1929, to Rudolph and Anna Magdalena (Reumann) Bothern. He was the youngest of 10 children.
Don attended school in the Rutland area. He began farming full-time with his dad and brothers at 16 years old in rural Colman, SD. On February 24, 1951, Don married Verna Lindstrom. Together, they raised their three children in Grandma Reumann's house in Colman before moving to the family farm in 1965, which he continued operating until 1978. Don then began his work as a carpenter until his retirement. Don called several other communities home in his lifetime, including Anderson, SC, Brookings, SD, Volga, SD, and Flandreau, SD.
Don is survived by daughter, Donna (David) Reaves, of Marshall, MN; sons, Rick (Barb) Bothern, Tea, SD, and Ron (Char) Bothern, Colman, SD; grandchildren: Jason Reaves, Jordan Reaves (Nichole), Joanna Reaves (Johnny Frevert), Cody Dolge, Jenna Kobernusz (Josh), Krista Mack (Eric), Tyler (Cassie) Bothern, and Megan Bothern; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Herbert, Herman, Wilhelm (Bill), Robert, Delbert, and Henry; and sisters: Elizabeth, Gerda, and Maryan.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Midway Lutheran Church, Colman, with burial at the Midway Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service.
