Donald Leroy Breier, 67, of Put-in-Bay, Ohio, passed away in peace on Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on November 9, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Richard and Mary (Powers) Breier.
Don was a graduate of Northwood High School and attended The Ohio State University, where his passion for nature and biological sciences continued to expand. His love for these subjects led him to Put-in-Bay, where he worked and studied at the Ohio State University Stone Laboratory. In younger years he enjoyed working at the Roundhouse and Village Water Department. For the past several decades he was well established as an island handyman and maintenance "problem solver". He was dedicated to his craft and valued the friendships he developed with his customers and their families, many of which now span multiple generations. An avid outdoorsman, Don loved fishing and hunting, always maintaining a keen interest in the nature of the lake and surrounding areas. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
He is survived by his daughter, Abigail (Justin) Chaffin; stepdaughter, Katie (Charlie) Wertenbach-Summers; stepson, Johnathan Wertenbach; grandchildren, Rex Chaffin, Lena Chaffin, and Amelia Summers; his siblings: Dave (Marcia) Breier; Patricia (Jon) Barber; Donna (Mike) Winslow; Jerry (Jenifer) Breier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his long-time best friends, Matt Miller and Peter Beane.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue (Rick) Fowler.
In honor of his memory, his family has established the Memorial Fund for Donald L. Breier through First National Bank.
Per Don's wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date on Put-in-Bay. The Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home in Port Clinton assisted the family with arrangements.
