Donald Joseph Calabria, 84, of Plainfield, passed away March 24, following a lengthy illness. He was born July 12, 1939, in Anderson, IN to Francis (Mathews) and Dominic J. Calabria where he grew up close to his Italian American grandparents and an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Don enlisted in the US Navy serving in Norfolk, VA where he was honorably discharged as a Master Accountant trained in military data processing systems. Upon his return to Anderson, Don met and then married Joyce "Joy" Moran. Following his graduation from Ball State University, he was recruited by and joined the CPA firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co, moving his family to the Chicago area where they resided for many years. Don retired from the firm as partner, to grow their marine centers in Southwest MO on Table Rock Lake. They later returned to Indiana where they made their home in McCordsville. Joy passed away in 2003 following an extended illness. In 2008, Don retired for a second time as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Marina Limited Partnership of Geist Marina.
In 2009, Don met Marcia Setzer whom he married in 2011 in St. Louis in the presence of their children and grandchildren. Even after Marcia's retirement in 2017, they remained in Paris, IL where they enjoyed family gatherings and holidays with an extended circle of family and friends until they relocated to Plainfield, IN during the fall of 2021.
Don is survived by wife, Marcia; daughter, Annette Lunnemann of Vonore, TN; Marcia's daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Kevin Condon of St. Peters, MO; grandson, Michael (Samantha) Lunnemann of Madisonville, TN; granddaughters, Elisabeth Condon of St. Louis, MO, and Kathleen Condon of Ft. Collins, CO; and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Francine Webb of Anderson and Ann (Ralph) Bowyer of Indianapolis, as well as Marcia's sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Tom Freas of LaPort, IN as well as members of both the Calabria and Moran families.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, and in April 2021, their son Dean; sister, Diane Smith and extended members of the Moran family and most recently, his father-in-law, Glen Smitley of Paris IL.
Although Don's ongoing health challenges since 2012 resulted in limitations, he never lost interest in fine food and wine at their favorite Indianapolis restaurants, or the St. Louis Cardinals.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Hendricks County Humane Society, Danville, IN.
Interment will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery on the family grave site.
All services will be private.
