Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home - SachseDonald I “Don” Craig, III, 53, of Nevada, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, at home. Born January 11, 1972, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the son of Donald and Vonda Elliott Craig of Salisbury, Maryland.
Don graduated from James M Bennett High School in Salisbury MD. He attended San Jacinto College in Texas. He was employed as a Senior Claims Representative for Broadspire Services, Inc., working from home.
Don is survived by his wife, Kelly Crowder Craig of Wylie, TX; children Justin, Shelby, and Juby also of Wylie; Daughter Lauren and husband Ben Barraza of Huntsville, AL; Sister Cathy and husband Eric Fykes of Salisbury, MD; Brother Tim Craig and wife Sharon of Milpitas, CA; nephews and nieces Michael, Josh, Amelia and Sedona.
He will be missed by all who knew or met him and an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Don always had an adventurous spirit from early childhood all the way through adulthood. Growing up as part of a Power Boat racing family, spending time as the pit crew and even test runs in his father’s hydroplane racing boat. This spirit continued as he grew up, through sports: soccer, lacrosse, baseball, wrestling, ice hockey, golf, and hunting. He also loved flying, both individually and as an instructor helping others learn the thrill of flying. In his pool league team “Outlaw Mavericks”, with his nickname “Ace”, he competed in local 8-ball and 9-ball tournaments, and at nationals in Las Vegas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 12:00pm at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home - Sachse 2925 5th St., Sachse, TX 75048.
