Flanner Buchanan - SpeedwayDonald (Don) Lester Bosma, age 96, of Brownsburg, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home in Brownsburg Meadows on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Don was born on November 13, 1928, in Stevens, Iowa, the first of seven children of Lewis and Louise Bosma. In 1939 the family moved to Buffalo Center where Don remained until 1947 when he enlisted in the US Army. He was honorably discharged in 1951. On August 21, 1954 Don married Martha Lou Goodhart in the former Presbyterian Church in Danville, Indiana. Don and Martha celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary shortly before Martha’s passing in 2023.
Don is survived by sister Doris Haraldson of Houston, Texas, brother Glen Bosma of Houston, Texas; and sister-in-law Judy Bosma of April Sound, Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great-great nieces and a great-great nephew.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, brother Marvin (Betty) Bosma; sister-in-law Sue Bosma; brother-in-law William Haraldson; brother Howard (Geraldine) Bosma; brother Arnold Bosma, and sister Shirley Bosma.
Don initially attended college in Ames, Iowa and later graduated from Purdue University in 1976 with a degree in electronic technology. After his military service, Don worked at Allison Gas Turbine from November 1951 until January 1989 when he retired. As an Allison Service Rep, Don’s travels included two tours during the war in Viet Nam, servicing military aircraft and training ground crew. Don received multiple written commendations for his work there. One commendation, he was especially proud of, was from Army Major James Weaver that specifically referenced Don’s exceptional work for “engine repairs in the field under enemy fire.” After retiring Don was able to enjoy many years of his favorite activities of travel, hunting, fishing, and skeet shooting.
Don was a long-time member of Speedway Christian Church, the NRA, Brownsburg Conservation Club, and Crooked Creek Conservation Club.
Service for Don will be at West Ridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 2:00 in the Garden of Angels section, Pastor Kyle Hunter will officiate the service. Following interment, a celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Waterford Court Clubhouse, 309 Lakewood Court, Avon, Indiana from 4-6 pm.
Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Home in Speedway is in charge of final arrangements.
