Donald B. Downey, age 97, died peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at his home in Weatherford, Texas, surrounded by his family.

Memorial Service:  2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024 at White’s Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.

Don was born on April 22, 1927 in Beardsley, Kansas to Sophia and Frank Downey.  When he was just a toddler, his family moved to Wray, Colorado where he spent his youth with his five brothers and four sisters.  Don moved to Denver, Colorado and was employed at the Gates Rubber Company until he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1948 to 1952, serving in Germany during the Berlin Airlifts.   After his military service he resumed employment at Gates Rubber Company, and retired in 1982.

Don loved fishing, hunting, and all sports (he twice bowled 299 in his league).  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.   Even though he wasn’t able to attend church in recent years, he loved the Lord and read his Bible daily.

Survivors:  Wife of 71 years, Shirley Downey; daughter, Jody Watson; son-in-law, Johnney Watson; granddaughter, Jamie Watson; as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, great-niece and great nephews, and great great-nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
