Don was born on April 22, 1927 in Beardsley, Kansas to Sophia and Frank Downey. When he was just a toddler, his family moved to Wray, Colorado where he spent his youth with his five brothers and four sisters. After his military service he resumed employment at Gates Rubber Company, and retired in 1982.
Don loved fishing, hunting, and all sports (he twice bowled 299 in his league). He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Even though he wasn’t able to attend church in recent years, he loved the Lord and read his Bible daily.
