Donald Preston Gainey Sr.,71, entered into heaven in the late morning of June 2, 2024. Donald was born to the late Henry Preston "Pete" Gainey and Louise Gainey on December 4, 1952, in Troy, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Rhetha Susan Gainey; and siblings, Ray Langford, Rose Gaines, and Sadie Jeffcoat.
Donald was retired civil service from Robins Air Force Base, where he was an aircraft mechanic. He enjoyed hunting and crappie fishing. Donald could be found most days enjoying a cup of coffee at Waffle House or kicked back in his recliner watching Alabama football or the Atlanta Braves play. Donald loved the Lord and cherished his family, always reminding his grandchildren how proud he was of them.
Donald's memory will forever be cherished by his loving children, Donald Preston Gainey Jr. (Dina) of Warner Robins, and Summer Buzhardt (Kurt) of Kathleen. Donald is also survived by his four grandchildren, Cassie Buzhardt, Jason Gainey, Jacob Gainey and Karly Gainey; brother, John Langford.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Solid Rock Community Church in Centerville, Georgia. Afterward, Donald Preston Gainey Sr. will be laid to rest in Rhoades Cemetery, Kinston, Alabama.
