On November 2, 2024, Donald Edward Habedank departed this life peacefully at his daughter's home in Tennessee. He has entered the place of eternal rest in the arms of his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Donald was born in a parsonage in Hopewell Township, Pennsylvania, on November 25, 1936. As a child and young adult, he spent time at his grandfather's farm, where he cultivated a love for horses and farming. One of his first jobs was working as a farmhand at a nearby farm. He then enlisted in the Navy and toured the Mediterranean working on electronics in the airplanes of an aircraft carrier. His duty assignment was Heavy Attack Squadron ONE. After his honorable discharge, he married Patricia Dale Hicks. They were faithfully married for 62 years.
Donald was a man full of character. He was always on time or early, worked hard, helped anyone who needed help, whether it was pulling a car out of a ditch, helping neighbors get their cattle back into the fence, driving someone to a hospital or sharing his abundance of food and garden stuffs with those in need. He worked for J&L steel in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania until the plant was shut down. This was two years shy of his retirement, and he still was granted some early retirement. He then went to work at a local sand and gravel pit for the next 15 years or more.
Don bought some wonderful property in Ohioville, Pennsylvania, with a small house two years after his marriage. This became his hobby farm home. He would work at the mill and then go home and work in the fields and gardens and improve his property.
He became a born-again Christian in the late 1970's. He read his Bible every day, prayed and faithfully attended the local church in Ohioville for 20 years, then several other churches and finally his last church of 30 years. He and Patricia sang in the choir for most of those years.
Don's wife, Pat, predeceased him in 2022.
He is survived by daughter Robin (Jim) Biondi (New Bern, NC), daughter Sharon (Andrew) Sandlin (Coulterville, CA), daughter Susan (Michael) Greenwood (Oneida, TN), son Edward (Sherill) Habedank (Sturgis, MI), son John Habedank (Ohioville, PA), sister Shirley Fluharty (Aliquippa, PA) and special nephew Charles (Melissa) Fluharty (PA). Don is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren (one in Heaven) There are also many close friends, extended family members and neighbors that will miss him greatly.
Don's family is so grateful to all those who provided the great care he received in the past year: Susan Greenwood, loving daughter, and her husband Mike, who opened their home for end-of-life care; caregivers Michelle and Elbie; and Tracy and family. What made caring for Donald at home possible was the wonderful women and men of Quality Care Hospice of Tennessee
