Donald Richard Hagan, known to most as Don, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in his home on Barbee Lake, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89. Born on July 4, 1936, in Owensboro, Kentucky, he was the son of Fred and Marie Hagan (Hix).
Don graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1954 and soon after enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1954 to 1957. After his military service, he embarked on a long and dedicated career with Bethlehem Steel, where he worked diligently for 29 years before retiring in 1998. He also was a volunteer firefighter and EMS for many years, demonstrating his commitment to serving his community. Don was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster.
On October 29, 1960, Don married his true love, Lavivian "Viv" Evans. Together, they created a warm and loving home, raising their four children: Allen, Bradley, Rick, and Julia. Viv preceded him in passing in December of 2024. The family flourished under Don's easygoing and happy-go-lucky personality. He was proud to be a grandfather to eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, relishing the joy and laughter they brought into his life.
Beyond his family, Don enjoyed numerous hobbies that reflected his crafty spirit. He was skilled in woodworking, making intricate birdhouses and decorative yard pieces. He also was an avid fisherman. Music was another passion; he would often play guitar in the garage with neighbors, performing old country songs by George Jones and others. Don found pleasure in everyday activities such as watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, reading the newspaper, and enjoying leisurely RV camping trips with Viv.
He leaves behind his children, Rick (Cindy) Hagan of Barbee Lake and Julia (Jerry) Burns of North Webster, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with his sister, Lydia Stowers. He was reunited in Heaven with his wife, Viv, and their sons, Allen and Bradley; his parents, Fred and Marie Hagan; and his siblings, Maurice Hagan, Joseph Hagan, Thomas Hagan, James Hagan, and Patricia Hill.
