Donald Carl Hopper, 87, passed away Sunday, January 19th, 2025, at his home in Lexington, Kentucky. He was surrounded by family and friends.
Don was born April 25, 1937, in Berea, Kentucky, to Carl Elbert and Willie Elizabeth Hopper. He graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington, KY in 1955, and from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 1959. He served in the US Army from 1960 to 1966. Don loved helping others and did so diligently as a pharmacist, a commodities broker, a belt buckle vendor, and even as an ice cream scooper in his younger years.
Don loved following his UK sports, monitoring the financial markets, tracking the thoroughbred industry, golfing with his friends, especially his nine holes in one, and taking selfless care of his family and friends with laughter, fun, and his infectious sense of humor. He would jokingly refer to himself as Old Bothersome.
Don is survived by his patient, loving wife of 60 years, Carol, and his two grateful, proud sons, Kevin, and Mark. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1969, his father in 1980, and his younger brother, Harold, in 2020. He was a great husband, a great father, a great man, and he will be greatly missed.
Military funeral services will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in the spring to celebrate and honor Don and his life.
