Donald L "Don" McQueen, 62 passed away on October 13, 2025 surrounded by his family at his home in Altona from cancer.
Don was born December 16, 1962 in Galesburg, Illinois to Jerald and Carol (Ankeney) McQueen. They lived in Galesburg for a short time before moving to rural Victoria, Illinois. He graduated with the ROVA Class of 1981. He married Ronda Naslund on October 28, 1989 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. They were blessed with two children Kaitlyn (Christopher) Miller, of Lexington, SC and Connor McQueen of Altona, Illinois.
Don was a simple hardworking man. He spent the last 28 years working for Harsco Metals near Montpelier, Iowa as a heavy equipment mechanic and Shear Operator. He loved his job, not only for the work, but for the people that he worked with for so many years, who all became great friends. Don was a former member of the Altona Volunteer Fire Department and also served on the Altona Village Board. He was a faithful Minnesota Vikings fan and wore his team's colors proudly. He enjoyed traveling to Minnesota to attend games with his son. In his free time, you could usually find him drinking coffee and driving around the countryside.
Don is survived by his wife of 35 years Ronda, his children, Kaitlyn and Connor, his son-in-law Christopher, His father Jerald of Galesburg, Illinois, his brother Chris (Debbie) McQueen Oneida, Illinois, his sister Angie (Chuck) Maurizi of Galesburg, Illinois, his father-in-law Ron (Ruby) Naslund of Alpha, Illinois, his brother-in-law, Doug Naslund of Altona, Illinois, his sister-in-law Jennifer (Keith) Weaver of Orion, Illinois, as well as his 3 nieces and 5 nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his uncle Joel McQueen of Galesburg, Illinois, his Aunt Judy (Glenn) Stevens of Altona, Illinois, and an uncle Rich (Cindy) Ankeney of Galesburg, IL as well as many cousins. Don was preceded in death by his mother Carol, his brother Greg McQueen, his aunt Lois McQueen, and his mother-in-law Bonnie Naslund.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, October 21, at 11 A.M. at the Walnut Grove cemetery in Altona, Illinois. Reverend Tim Anderson will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altona Historical Society. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory will be assisting the family with his wishes.
