Colonel Donald Martin Moore, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 in Newport.

Born in Central City, Kentucky on March 25, 1938, he was a son of the late George Lee Moore and Juanita (Blackwell) Moore. He graduated from Murray State University, BS, American University, MA. As well as from US Defense Language Institute, with a fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Thai.

During his 30-year military career, Colonel Moore served as 4th Infantry Division Field Artillery Commander at Fort Carson. He served tours in Germany, two years combat tour in Vietnam receiving two Bronze stars, he worked as an intelligence specialist in the Pentagon during Vietnam and several tours in Thailand including advisor to the Thai army. His last assignment was as the US Army attaché in Bangkok, working directly for the Ambassador.

Upon retirement from the Army, Colonel Moore worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for six years as Training Manager for the Saudi Arabian National Guard. Additional Managerial positions included East Coast Field Office Manager with Immigration and Naturalization.

He is survived by the love of his life and best friend Patricia K. (Edwards) Moore. His daughters Bonnie (Moore) Edwards (Neal) of Springfield, VA and Virginia (Moore) Fletcher (Kevin) of Jacksonville, FL. He is survived by his stepchildren, William J. Nagle (Jude) of Vermont, Mary L. Sizeland, (Bill) of Newport, RI, Patricia K. Burnett (Todd) of Tampa FL, Lillian R. of Cheyenne, WY, and John D. Nagle of Newport, RI. He was preceded in death by his son Donald M. Moore, Jr. and stepsons Michael T. Nagle and Thomas C. Nagle.

Colonel Moore is also survived by numerous grandchildren as well as 4 great grandchildren. He loved his family, his country, and his state.

A Mass of Christian Burial with be held Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

Burial with Military Honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
