It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald E. Rayls, age 50, of Topeka, Kansas, who left us on August 29, 2025. A devoted father, loving partner, and dear friend, Donald's spirit and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on September 25, 1974, in Topeka, Donald grew up in Scranton. He developed a passion for the outdoors, cherishing weekends spent fishing, helping his father with yard work, and laying carpet, finding joy and solace in nature's beauty and hard work. He loved his mother deeply.
Donald was a loving father to his daughter, Ashley Atkins, and her husband, Alyk, and took great pride in his five grandchildren: Destiny, Valisity, Kinsley, Colton, and Mason.
Though a private man, Donald's warm smile-the most heartwarming-and his love for laughter could light up any room. His ability to share joy with those around him left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Donald is survived by his significant other, Kristy Workman; his mother, Claudia Rayls; his daughter Ashley; his grandchildren; his sister, Shannon Zeilinger, and her husband, Todd, along with their children, T.J., Katelyn, and Logan; as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Rayls, Jr., who instilled in him the values of love and hard work, and his grandmother, Leona S. Rayls.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Topeka Parks and Recreation Foundation in Donald's memory, honoring his love for the outdoors.
Donald E. Rayls will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his warmth, indomitable spirit, and wonderful sense of humor.
