Donald K. Sedlacek, age 82, passed away peacefully at Jennie Edmundson Hospital October 13, 2025, surrounding by family.
He was born January 26, 1943, to the late Kenneth and Eleanor (Kassmeyer) Sedlacek in Columbus, NE. Donald graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School with the class of 1961. He proudly served his country in the United States Army after being drafted in1964. He spent two years in Germany. He then began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired from the railroad as a Special Agent in 1998 after more than thirty years.
Don was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Oakland Raiders. Through his job at the railroad, he was able to attend a few Super Bowls. These trips were very exciting to him. Most of his retirement was spending time with his five grandchildren, who meant everything to him. He spent his retirement days and nights attending sporting events of his grandchildren, often going on overnight trips to watch.
He collected many things over the years. He had many NASCAR and NHRA cars, train collections, and at one time a large beer can collection. He loved doing puzzles in his free time. He enjoyed life and visiting with family and friends. He was the jokester of the Avenue J clan. He even attended AC/DC concerts in his later life.
Donald is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Sedlacek; children, Scott Sedlacek (Tina), Shelley Ragland (Ron), and Stacy Sedlacek; grandchildren, Brandon Sedlacek, Iris Ragland (Alison Smith), Troy Sedlacek (Morgan), Cole Ragland, and Joely Sedlacek.
A reception in his honor will be in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital or Cancer Research of your choice.
