Donald Bruce Shipley, known as Don to his friends and family, passed away on April 24, 2025, at the age of 72, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on April 29, 1952, in Ada, Oklahoma. He departed this life in Krebs, Oklahoma, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of his loved ones.
Don was the beloved husband of Tami (Shields) Shipley, and together they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to his sons: Matt Shipley and Ginny, Aaron Shipley, Ryan Shields and Gabby, and Josh Brown and Amber. His grandchildren: Kennedy and husband Rain, Cameron, Sagan, Anistyn, Paxton, Kellan, Carlyn, Irelyn, Ryanne, Keaton, Deegan, Brenden, and Chance, brought immense happiness to his life, and he adored every moment spent with them.
He is also survived by his sister, Jeri Kolke, and brothers: Tommy Shipley and his wife Jana, and J. R. Shipley. His niece, Sara Shelton, and her husband Jake, along with great-nephews Lennox and Gus, held a special place in his heart. Don also leaves behind his dear aunt, Kaye Gibson, and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Shipley, and his mother, Tommie J. (Brown) Shipley Tipton.
A proud graduate of Ada High School with the Class of 1970, Don's work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident from a young age. He dedicated 27 years of his career to serving as a regional service manager for car dealerships, where his leadership and expertise were greatly valued. Following this, Don worked at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant for 16 years, retiring in 2020. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish TDD Landscaping and Irrigation with his son, Ryan, where he continued to apply his skills and passion for service.
Don's journey as a cancer survivor was marked by his characteristic courage and resilience. He faced his illness as he did all challenges in life: as a fighter and a warrior, never losing his spirit or his hope. Those who knew Don would describe him as kind and courageous, a man who faced life's adversities with grace and determination.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the Bishop Chapel of Memories.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester, Oklahoma with Pastor Terren Anderson officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Golightly, Jim Sanders, Jim Rice, and Kevin Daniels.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Don to the St. Joseph's Historic Rectory Fund, 290 NW Church Street, Krebs, Oklahoma 74554.
