Vietnam veteran, Donald Edward Sutter, age 76, passed peacefully from this life at his home in Martinsville on Monday, May 30th, 2022. Don had been in failing health since January 2022. He was one of two children born to the late Elmer George and Edith (Cowie) Sutter. His life began on Thursday, June 7, 1945, in Oak Park, Illinois, when he was welcomed by his parents and four-year-old sister, Helen.
Don graduated from Prosser High School in Chicago, Illinois, with the class of 1963. After graduation, he attended one year of college before enlisting in the US Army in 1965. He served his country with bravery during the Vietnam War from December 15, 1965, until December 14, 1967. Upon returning from active duty, Don continued to serve his country in the US Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged as an E-5 on December 14, 1971.
On December 29, 1970, Don married Patricia (Wickstrom) Sutter. In 1978, they moved their family to Indiana from Chicago, making Martinsville their home! Don & Patricia shared the blessings of raising two children, Don (wife, Betty) Noldte and Dawn (husband, Darrell) Gray all of Martinsville; four grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren prior to Patricia's passing in 1996.
After Patricia's passing, Don married Becky (Fields) Sutter, who also preceded him death in 2003. His marriage to Becky granted him more blessings with three additional children, Nikki (husband, Clifton) King of Alexandria, IN, Angie Parrott of Borden, IN, and Erik (wife, Holly) Parrott of Mooresville, IN, and three more grandchildren. In addition, Don was survived by his only sibling, Helen Mayfield of Bloomington, IN; one niece, Amy (husband, Aaron) Gregory of Indianapolis and one nephew, Jacob (wife, Kristen) Mayfield of Massachusetts.
Don absolutely adored spending time with his family and friends at holiday gatherings, cookouts, and going to the Drag Races. He thoroughly enjoyed auto-mechanics, drafting and simply 'over-thinking' things. He was artistic and talented when it came to calligraphy, lettering drag cars, making signs and various other 'precise' tasks.
He left specific instructions for his family to follow upon his death that will be respectfully carried out. There will be no public services and Don will be buried beside his parents in Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. His final arrangements have been entrusted to Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville.
