Donald "Don" James Lester Thompson, age 84, of Vienna, was born September 8, 1940, in Maries County, a son of Raymond Robert and Lucille Edith (Fisher) Thompson, and passed from this life, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Capitol Region Hospital, Jefferson City. He was united in marriage on August 19, 1961, to the former Ms. Nancy Jane Crider, and to this union, one daughter was born. Don started his working career at an early age cutting cordwood; then working for Champlain's Construction in Jefferson City until 1970; he continued in construction work with Goldammer Construction for several years before working with the Missouri Highway Department for twenty-six years, retiring in October of 2002, and at the time of Don's passing he had been working for WW Cedar for the past twenty-three years. He was a member of the Little Flock Baptist Church, Vienna. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working with wood, he could build almost anything. He loved listening to Bluegrass, Country and that Good Ole Gospel music. Those left to mourn the passing of Don include his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy of the home near Vienna; his daughter, Rita Humphrey and husband, Mark of Jefferson City; grandson, Cody Humphrey of Rolla; one brother, Ronnie and wife, Donna of Vienna; two sisters-in-law, Anna Thompson and Mary Spencer; and many other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his father Raymond on September 24, 1993; his mother Lucille on August 13, 2000; four brothers, Marvin Thompson on August 15, 2017, Leo Thompson on January 30, 2008, Charles Thompson on October 11, 2011, and Lonnie Thompson on February 18, 2024; two sisters, Infant Dessie Mae Thompson in 1949, and Mary Margaret Crider on April 12, 2025; his father-in-law Harry Crider on May 10, 1975; and his mother-in-law Bertha (Wagner) Crider on January 11, 1986. Visitation for Mr. Don Thompson will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2025, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. all in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, 406 South Main, Vienna, Missouri 65582 with Bro. Robert Crum officiating. Interment will be held in the Rader Cemetery, Vienna, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Pallbearers for Don will be Ron Rowden, Tracy Crider, Treven Crider, Shannon Thompson, Dan Germann, and Doug Cahill. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Humphrey, Otto Williams, Steve Thompson, Ronnie "Fat" Thompson, Raymond Thompson, Keith Thompson, and Buddy Thompson. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Don Thompson are suggested per the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the funeral home or in care of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O.
