Donald E. "Donnie" Wadel, 86, a long-time resident of Shippensburg, Entered into Rest June 14, 2024 in Mercy House of Chambersburg. He was the husband of Betty L. (Kelley) Wadel, they were married on Dec. 24, 1957.
Born in Shippensburg on October 7, 1937, he was a son of the late William J. and Corynn (Smith) Wadel. During his younger years, he worked on the family farm, and at 16 years of age, he helped in the building of the Rowe Mennonite Church.
Donnie began his career as a brick layer when he was 20, working for 55 years, retiring at the age of 75. In 1966, he built their home.
He was a member of the Covenant Church of the Brethren in Shippensburg, as well as several additional organizations. He enjoyed Nascar, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing, especially in Canada. Most of all, he is fondly remembered for his love of spending time with his son and grandchildren, siblings and extended family.
In addition to his wife, Betty, Donnie is survived by a son, Jesse K. Wadel, of Shippensburg; 3 grandchildren, Desmond Diven, Peyton and Shyann Wadel, and a great grandson, Mason Wadel. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Dale Wadel, (Wilma) of Shippensburg, Glenn Wadel, (Rachel), of Chambersburg, and Kenneth Wadel, (Vera), of Shippensburg; a sister, Wilma Wadel, of Hagerstown, MD and several generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Amstutz and brother-in-law, Glenford Amstutz.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service will be held Sat., June 22, 2024, at 11 AM in the Rowe Mennonite Church, 754 Pinola Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257, officiating, Kenneth Wadel, Moderator and Pastors, Wayne Hall and Brian Markle. The family will greet friends following the service.
