Donald Zuidema Obituary
Don was born May 23, 1937 in Paterson, NJ to the late John Zuidema and Elsie Husselman. He was a high school graduate of Eastern Christian High School in North Haledon, NJ. He married his high school sweetheart, Marianne DeJong, on Valentine's Day of 1959.
Don took pride as a master craftsman in tile, completing tilework for many celebrities, including Yogi Berra and Connie Francis. With his love of the trade, he worked for Garden State Tile for sixty years, retiring at age 80. At home, Don enjoyed gardening and caring for his flock of sheep.
Don and his family attended Grace Community Church of Hilton Head Island. Nothing was more important to him than his family. Don was instrumental in bringing his son's dream to life, creating Don and Sons Professional Landscape Services, servicing the Beaufort County community.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Marianne Zuidema, Don is survived by his son, Donald John "DJ" Zuidema (Julia Peacock-Zuidema) of Bluffton; daughter, Donna Zuidema of Bluffton; adopted daughter, Lori Eisler of Bluffton; brother, John Zuidema (Nancy) of MI; sister, Doris Zuidema of MI; and one grandson, Nicholas D. Zuidema of Bluffton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Zuidema.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm, Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Grace Community Church, 450 Spanish Wells Rd. Hilton Head Island, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Community Church, 450 Spanish Wells Rd. Hilton Head Island, SC 29926.
