Ernest was a native of Sutton, MA, and the son of the late Arne and Fannie Zuidema. He loved his country, serving in the United States Army for 20 years. He was an avid puzzler and enjoyed playing and teaching others how to play cribbage. However, he loved nothing more than his family.

Leighton of Fort Mill, S.C.; three great-granddaughters, Grace K. Wagnon (Michael), Diana E. Burden, and Kaitlyn N. Crossland (Alex), all of Fort Mill; three great-grandsons, Joseph C. O'Toole, Devin T. O'Toole, and Zachary C. O'Toole (Tiffany Howard), all of Rock Hill, great-great grandson, Liam C. O'Toole, and great-great granddaughter, Lillian J. O'Toole. He is preceded in death by his wife, Viola, grandson, Scott J. Burden, and great-grandson, Corey P. O'Toole.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Children's Attention Home, P.O. Box 2192, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
