64, of Narragansett, RI, passed away peacefully on October 10th, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Providence, RI, and raised in Cranston, Donna was the beloved wife of John Averill Sr., devoted mother of John Averill Jr. and Brittney Averill, and cherished sister of Susan McGillivray.
Donna dedicated her life to helping others and improving her community. Through her professional work, she was passionate about ensuring that underprivileged individuals received the insurance coverage and care they deserved. Her compassion extended beyond her career into her extensive volunteer work at the Johnnycake Center of Peace Dale, where she served proudly on the Board of Directors.
Donna was the driving force behind the “Breaking the Waves of Hunger” gala for the Johnnycake Center - a beloved annual tradition that continues to this day, reflecting her lasting impact. In recognition of her outstanding dedication and community service, she was honored with the 2016 Independent Spirit Award.
Known for her vibrant energy, humor, and generous heart, Donna was a true social butterfly who made everyone feel welcome. She loved the beach, where she found peace and happiness, and was a classic Italian cook who brought people together with her food, laughter, and warmth.
Her kindness, strength, and joy for life will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 10am in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Donna’s beautiful life. VISITING HOURS Monday, October 13 from 4-7pm in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory - SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road (Rt. 1A), Narragansett.
