Donna Mae (Richards) Dutile was born on November 24, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, to Arvilla and Harry Richards. From an early age, Donna was known for her warm spirit, strong sense of independence, and deep love for her family. She grew up in Michigan alongside her beloved sister, Dee Stolz, and brother, Lionel Richards. The three of them shared a lifelong passion for history. Dee and Lionel predeceased her.
After graduating from high school, Donna proudly joined the United States Navy. While stationed in Washington, D.C., she met the love of her life, Paul R. Dutile, who was also serving his country. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, resilience, and adventure, moving wherever the Navy took them. One of their favorite assignments was in Gaeta, Italy. Donna traveled there with their four young children while Paul made the journey by ship. She used this opportunity to travel with her family, exposing them to the culture and history of Italy, France, and Germany.
When Paul passed in 1986, Donna remained devoted to his memory, often saying she would never find a greater love than the one they shared. Her family takes comfort in knowing that Donna has reunited with the love of her life.
While raising her children, Donna worked around her family's schedule, taking a part-time job in the kitchen at Franklin High School. There, she quickly formed lasting friendships with a group of fellow moms who proudly called themselves "BST," short for Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Their bond extended well beyond those early years, as they continued to meet regularly, sharing laughter, tears, and steadfast support throughout their lives.
Donna later worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in data processing until her retirement. Early in her retirement, she traveled extensively with her sister, Dee, visiting nieces and nephews across the United States, each one deeply important to her. On their trips together, they followed their shared passion for U.S. history, visiting many historic sites. She also loved visiting the National Parks on her travels.
In her 82nd year, Donna fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling to London, where she reveled in the city's deep history and delighted in many meals of fish and chips.
Donna devoted herself to her family, always placing the needs and happiness of others before her own. She is survived by her loving children: Paul Dutile Jr. and his wife, Karen Matteson; Gregory Dutile and his wife, Wendy Dutile; and Debra Tracy and her husband, Edward Tracy. She was predeceased by her son, Gary Dutile.
She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each one a cherished part of her heart. Donna had a remarkable ability to connect with every generation of her family in a unique and meaningful way. She was always there for her grandchildren with a smile, a hug, a ride, or a listening ear. Offering love and comfort whenever needed.
Donna also brought joy to countless family gatherings with her sharp mind and her baking. Around the table, she was dominant in Trivial Pursuit, delighting in the history questions and friendly competition. Every holiday, she filled her family's homes with the smell of her mini pecan pies and her beloved peanut butter chocolate drop cookie, treats that were as eagerly anticipated as her company itself.
Donna's kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be cherished by all who were blessed to know her. Her gentle presence, humble nature, and generous heart leave behind a legacy of love that lives on in the hearts she touched. Please visit www.fournierandfournier.com for guestbook.
