Donna Jean Fairchild, a beloved wife, mother, mentor, and cherished community member, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in 
St. Augustine, Florida, on July 14, 2023.
Donna was born to Cletus and Mackie Hubbs on April 19, 1927, in 
Paducah, Kentucky. She attended Tilghman High School and then Kentucky's Murray State University. Donna led a life dedicated to her family, friends, and faith. She was 96 years old. Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 73 years, Gene Page Fairchild, in 2020. Their devoted son Mark was their companion and caregiver in their last years.
Donna is survived by her other children, Stephen (Joanne), Constance, and Matthew (Maria.) They are forever grateful for her love and guidance. Donna is the adored grandmother of Samuel David and Luca Samuel Torretta, J.P. Fairchild, Maxwell Page Fairchild, and Harrison Carlos Fairchild. They brought immeasurable joy to her life. Donna is also survived by her sister, Jane Sparks, brother, Sonny Hubbs, and his wife, Priscilla. Throughout their lives, they shared a deep bond of love and support.
Donna was a woman of profound faith, personal warmth, and empathy. Her passion for friendship touched so many individuals. She naturally connected with young people, inspiring them to reach their full potential and guiding them toward a brighter future. Her love of music and singing was legendary, whether gospel, jazz, or country.
After a fulfilling life as a mother and an educator, Donna and Gene retired to a close-knit St. Augustine condominium community 35 years ago. Together, they created a haven of love and joy, fostering friendships with their neighbors and enriching the lives of everyone they knew. Donna's warm smile, witty, good humor, and caring nature made her a cherished community member, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.
Donna and Gene were members of Anastasia Baptist Church in St. Augustine. Her faith was integral to her life, and she found solace, inspiration, and a sense of community within her faith. Donna's commitment to her devotion was exemplified through her involvement in teaching bible classes for over 20 years.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Anastasia Baptist Church
