DONNA HOUCHENS
Donna Ruth (Chamberlain) Houchens, age 89, of Springfield, formerly of Versailles, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Woodland Manor in Springfield. She was born February 2, 1936, in Morgan County, Missouri, daughter of the late Arvil and Ruby (Evans) Chamberlain.
On May 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to Donald Houchens. Together they shared fifty years of marriage until his passing on December 2, 2004.
Over the years, she was employed at Versailles Optical, D & D Donut Shop, Laurie Care Center and the Gates Corporation. Following her retirement, Donna traveled extensively throughout the United States with her favorite person and best friend, Don.
She enjoyed working with ceramics and reading for information and pleasure. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Donna was a longtime member of the Versailles Christian Church. She was steadfast in her faith and love for the Lord.
She is survived by her son, Gary Houchens and wife Debbie of Springfield, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Bernie Houchens of Jefferson City, Missouri; one brother, Bob Chamberlain and wife Carol; two sisters-in-law, Carol Houchens and Barbara Chamberlain; five grandchildren, Donnie Houchens, Cherie Ehlen, David Houchens, Tammie Blythe and Christie Buckner; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Houchens, daughter, Sherry Houchens and four brothers, Lyle Chamberlain, Elwyn Chamberlain, Kenneth Chamberlain and Roger Chamberlain.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 21st, at the Versailles Christian Church with Reverend John Wagner officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the New Hope Christian Community, 100 McNair St., Versailles, Missouri 65084.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
