Donna Hyatt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cox Funeral Home - Hamilton on Dec. 10, 2025.
Donna Burke Hyatt, 71, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on December 7, 2025. She lived a life defined by courage, creativity, and deep devotion to the people she loved, leaving behind a legacy as remarkable as she was.
Born in New York City to Edna "Ande" and Charles Burke, Donna grew up with a bold, adventurous spirit that carried her far. She competed in the 1980 Winter Olympics as a single luger, an extraordinary achievement earned through years of dedication and grit. Her strong sense of purpose later guided her into service as a journalist in the U.S. Navy, where her sharp curiosity and gift for storytelling found their home. After her honorable discharge, Donna built a meaningful career as a graphic artist and copy editor for the U.S. Army, blending creativity with precision in work she cared for deeply. Whether shaping words or images, she approached every task with humility, commitment, and her unmistakable artistic vision.
Above all, Donna cherished her family. She is survived by her daughters, Emily Hyatt and Kelly (Calvin) Redman; her beloved grandchildren, Nolan Bunting and Charlotte, Elliott, and Evanne Redman; and her siblings, Diane Tymkowiche, Charles Burke Jr., and Tom Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donna will be remembered for her compassion, her steadfast faith, and the love she carried for others. Her family and friends will hold her memory with deep gratitude for the years they shared with her, and for the lasting impact of her presence in their lives. She will be profoundly missed.
