Donna Lou Nelson, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 71. Born in Mulberry, Arkansas, at Kirksey Hospital on October 25, 1953, Donna lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and a boundless love for the simple joys of life.
A proud retiree of Southwest Airlines, Donna brought a spirit of hospitality and kindness wherever she went. Her passions were many. She had a keen eye for antiquing, a green thumb for gardening (especially her cherished flowers), a thirst for travel, and a true talent for entertaining. Her generous heart was evident in the way she gave freely of her time and resources, always finding joy in surprising friends with thoughtful gifts.
Donna's love for animals knew no bounds, except for snakes, which she could do without, and she was especially devoted to horses, being an avid equestrian for much of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Wanda Peters Dunn of Mulberry, Arkansas, and her beloved husband, Deryl Nelson of El Reno, Oklahoma.
Donna leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts: her daughter Patricia Grimm and husband Davey of Nashville, Tennessee; her step-son Rowdy Nelson of El Reno, Oklahoma; her treasured grandchildren, Campbell and Ethan Grimm; and her devoted sisters, Peggy Bartlett of Altus, Arkansas, and Beth Bradley of Ozark, Arkansas.
Donna's legacy is one of laughter, love, and a life beautifully lived. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Please consider donating to your local pet shelter or charity in Donna's honor.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

This makes me so sad. I loved Donna so much.
I was based in Chicago with her for a period of time and really enjoyed flying with her. She was a very special lady. Super fun and very sweet! She would do anything for you. Prayers to the family. She spoke of you often. I know she loved you very much.

Donna, you will forever be one of my favorite people of all time!

My precious friend...I miss you already. You were always there for anybody, anytime. No one will ever replace you. So many memories for so many years. You were always there ready to support Jim at his shows, facetiming me and laughing. Ooooh... that laugh! It could light up a room! That and just your presence alone made everyone smile and feel special! You gave with your whole heart and loved big! I love you sweetie!

So sorry to see this about Donna. Always appreciated how she made me feel welcome to the Southwest family when I was new to the job, a new city, commuting, etc.

I will miss you my dear friend. Your huge heart and generosity are legendary. I think of you every day when I see the fire pit you had custom made for me. I tell the story often of how you drove 7 hours to bring it to me then drove 4 more hours to Dallas because you had a trip to fly the next day. Who does that? Only you. I cherish the memories we made. You are a true friend and loved by all.

It hasn´t even been a week and I miss you so much! I know you are pain free, and in the arms of Jesus. I bet you had so many angles with arms wide open for you when you arrived in Heaven. My mom was probably one of them, knowing how much I loved you. We will take care of things down here, you save a spot and drink for me. My memories of all our fun times and adventures will always be in my heart. RIP beautiful friend, until we meet again. Thank you being such an amazing friend Donna!
