Donna Lee (Frey) Neuner, 96, of Topeka, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023, at Saint Luke's Hospice House.
She was born on September 12, 1926, in Silver Lake, KS. As the third of four daughters of Fred and Marie (Leep) Frey, she grew up on her family's farm near her beloved cousins.
Donna graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1944 and was always proud of her close-knit community. She married John R. Neuner in Topeka, KS, on September 16, 1946. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death on November 23, 1997.
In September 1964, Donna and her husband John purchased Kansas Sand & Concrete. She attended industry conventions and meetings at her husband's side throughout his career.
A devoted wife and mother and an exceptional grandmother known as "Nana," Donna lovingly grew the most beautiful flowers in her backyard and avidly contributed to the art of needlecraft and sewing. She traveled worldwide with her husband, sisters, brothers-in-law, and friends. Later in life, she and her husband traveled to Palm Desert every winter, a tradition she continued with her eldest sister following his death. Donna cherished her wonderful neighbors, who became lifelong friends over the years. She loved watching KU basketball, and playing bridge and golf, although she would tell you she was not very good at the latter.
Donna was a lady full of poise but could make you laugh with her unexpected sense of humor.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Ashley "Bumper" Meisinger (Matt); great-grandson, John Meisinger; sister, Nancy Frey Martinek; and nieces and nephews, Sharon Mack Newton, Jim Mack, Susan Mack, David Pitman, Mona Martinek, and Jay Martinek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John R. Neuner; daughter, Linda Neuner Hock; sisters, Betty Frey Mack and Margie Frey Pitman Walton and nephews, Jeffrey Pitman, and Ronald Pitman.
The family will greet friends at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave. in Topeka, KS. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Silver Lake USD 372 Public School Foundation, 200 Rice Rd., Silver Lake, KS 66539, or to Saint Luke's Hospice House, 3516 Summit St., Kansas City, MO 64111 in Donna's name.
