Donnabeth Dooley

Donna Dooley, 77, of Andover, MA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at her home in Andover. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Grassis, who predeceased her along with her son, Jay Grassis who died just 3 months ago. Donna is survived by her daughters, Molly Maesano and fiance Jeff Rutstein, Julie Waite and husband James Waite, her precious granddaughter, Maeve Maesano, her sister Barbara Campbell of No. Andover, her daughter-in-law, Lee Grassis, of Methuen, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Pat Grassis of Haverhill.
Donna was the daughter of the late George and Veronica Dooley of Lawrence. She was born in Lawrence, MA. Donna attended St. Lawrence OToole Grammar School, Lawrence and Presentation of Mary Academy, Methuen. She received her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education from Suffolk University.
Donna had an extensive career in the Lawrence Public School System, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. She was Principal at the Leahy and Guilmette Schools until her move to the Central Office where she remained until her retirement. During her long tenure, she rose quickly as a natural born leader. It was said of Donna that she would never ask anyone to do something that she wouldnt have done herself. She met every challenge with an irrepressible will until the challenge was met. The word "no" was not in her vocabulary. She was the recipient of many awards including being voted "Principal of the Year". One of her most cherished memories was when the Leahy School won the best overall float in the St. Patricks Day Parade in 1999.
One of her long-time colleagues and close friend said that Donnas strength made her the backbone of her family, a family for whom she felt boundless love. Her softness, kindness and generosity were apparent to all who knew and loved her. She will be sorely missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Calling Hours will be held at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street, Methuen on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 4:00PM - 7:00PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 10:00 at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, with burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
