Donnie Joe Inglish, lovingly known as Papa, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather - passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus at the age of 92 on November 10, 2025, at his home in Athens, AL. His legacy of love, hard work and strong family values will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Syliva Inglish.
Don was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 60 years, Nell Broadrick Inglish and a loving brother to his sister Luetta (Dave) Fox. He was a supportive and caring father to his children, Denise Inglish, Denell (Richard) Jones, and Doug (Carla) Inglish. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew (Leslie) Shahan, Brandon (Holly) Hill, Nicolas (Amanda) Hill, Blake Jones, Cody Jones, Austin (Alexis) Inglish, Samantha (Devin) Riley and Sarah Greenblatt (Dane Granby). He was a devoted uncle to Darrell (Faith) Fox and Angela Morris.
Papa was blessed with 10 great grandchildren, Jackson and Madison Shahan, Leah and Jacob Gonzales, Adam and Lily Hill, Elijah and Eden Hill, Oaklen Inglish and Maxwell Riley. He was deeply loved by special friends who became family; Doug and Rachelle Shipley, Cauleen and Avalyn Morton and Gabe, Emily, Mallory and Carleigh Freeman. Don was truly blessed by the love of many family members and friends.
Born on August 29, 1933, in Veron, Texas, Don was the son of Joe Inglish and Sylvia Jarvis Inglish. He was a 1951 graduate of Seaman High School in Topeka, Kansas. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from May 19, 1953, to May 18, 1957, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving during the Korean War.
Don worked as an electronic technician for 36 years at AEDC in Tullahoma, Tennessee. In the spring of 1964, Don met the love of his life, Nell Broadrick, and they married on December 30, 1965.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Manchester, TN and a lifelong Christian. Papa loved cars and tinkering - he could fix anything. He had every tool you would ever need to fix anything. Pop was soft-spoken and thoughtful, a man of few words, but each one carried meaning and care. His quiet strength and unwavering love will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
Visitation for Mr. Inglish will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 5:00-8:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home. A Celebration of Don's life will take place Thursday, November 13th at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Dana Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Don's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth.
Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.
They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court."
Psalm 127:3-5 NIV
