Dontwon Montrell Burris, 48, of Thomasville, NC, departed this earthly life on Saturday evening, July 12, 2025. He was born in High Point, NC,on August 16, 1976, a son of the late Dora Lee Burris Thompson, and grandson of the late James Gill and Marie Gill. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Derek Burris.
Dontwon enjoyed life. He was a fun loving guy that liked to joke around. He loved to make people laugh. He was a kindhearted person that would help anyone he could. Dontwon loved to cook, with his specialty being outdoor grilling. Like his mother, he had a beautiful singing voice. He was known for calling family members to check on them and to say "I love you!" Dontwon was employed with The Furniture Store.
Those left to cherish precious memories are a son, Douglas Montrell Pegues of High Point, NC; his brother, Cedrick Burris of High Point, NC; one sister, Rochelle Whitworth; two aunts, Ruby Johnson and Helen Coltrane, both of High Point, NC; one uncle, James Walker Burris of Salsbury, NC; one nephew; three nieces; two bonus sisters who were family to him, Tiffany Steele of Greensboro, NC and Quantina Horne of High Point, NC; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Guil-Rand Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, Inc.
