Dora Arthur Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Jan. 8, 2026.
Dora Josephine Arthur, lovingly known to many as "Dora," passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, in Fort Valley, Georgia. She was born on December 26, 1942, in Cairo, Georgia, to the late Emmett Griffin and Eunice Griffin Bishop. Dora lived a full and happy life, one marked by joy, laughter, and a deep love for the people around her. She enjoyed trips to the casino, listening to live music, and never missed an opportunity to hit the dance floor. Dora also loved watching western television shows and movies, traveling, and especially cherished the Christmas season-her favorite holiday and time of year. Above all else, Dora loved her family. She treasured every moment spent with them and held close the memories made together. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she shared with them will remain forever. Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Arthur; her son, Ray Foster Powers, Jr.; her daughter, Dora Jane Browning; her parents; and her siblings, Inez, Wesley, Shirley, and Jerry. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Betty Jean Johnson and Amy Powers Colbert; her grandchildren, Taylor, Danielle, Amber, Ray III, Carl, Rachel, Kathryn, Jonathan, Brandon, and Famous Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Natalie, Tanner, Kaleb, Jacob, Jaxon, Jeremy, Gracyn, Oliver, Kayleigh, Kasey, Kannon, Eli, Gage, Drew, DeAndre, Mariah, Joey, Deon, Marley, and Dominic; her brothers, Earl Griffin and Larry Griffin; and her special niece and caregiver, Barbara "Bobby" Giddens. Amy would also like to extend a special love and heartfelt appreciation to Bobby for her exceptional care, compassion, and attention shown to her mother. Dora Josephine Arthur will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love, laughter, and family will live on forever. With honor, Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with handling arrangements.
