Funeral for Dora M Williams, age 77, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Assembly of God Church. A family and friends gathering will be Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  She entered Heaven’s gates on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Montevista Skilled Nursing Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.

She was born on May 28, 1946, in Oklahoma, to Laymon Cephus Hicks and Sophina Ashalintubby Hicks. She grew up in Frederick and attended Frederick schools, graduating from Frederick High School with the Class of 1965. She was a Sunday School teacher and Church Secretary at the First Assembly of God for many years. She loved God and loved her church family. She was part of trio, singing hymns such as “God Is God”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “Hallelujah Square” and Choctaw Hymns with her sister, Mary and niece Kandi. You could find this trio often at the local Dollar Store. Dora loved singing and you could always find her among the church ladies singing her favorite hymns. 

Her friends call her Dora, her family calls her Aunt Doe. She was known as a seamstress; she was very talented and would start with a piece of material and end up with a prom dress. She sewed, crocheted, embroidered, and won countless ribbons at the county fair. She always had clothing to alter for the community and for the nieces and nephews she created clothing from the heart. Aunt Doe was an active Gardner, she loved being outside working with her flowers and blueberry vines. Any visit with Doe, ended with sitting outside on the porch with a cup of coffee. She loved to bake and would whip up some peanut butter cookies while you would visit and let’s not forget the peanut brittle and pumpkin bread. Aunt Doe didn’t have any children of her own, but she was loved very much by her nieces and nephews so much that she was considered a second mom. Her love continued to flourish as she gained great nieces and nephews. Nobody left without a special gift and a prayer for the road.  

Aunt Doe was a popular lady and a friend to so many. She could meet a new friend with one conversation and still have visits from high school pals. She was an inspiration to everyone she met and was a treasure to all. She was a mentor, a teacher, a caregiver to so many and always had a smile on her face. Aunt Doe had a positive soul and strong will to survive even with challenges in her life. She has often said to friends/family “Go on adventures and tell me about them, I can’t go, but I will get to experience them through you.” Aunt Doe had a heart of a fighter. 

She was preceded in death by her infant sister: Virginia, in December 1944; her father: Laymon Hicks on October 3, 1996; her mother: Sophina Hicks on January 31, 2007; her brother: Houston Hicks on June 23, 2012; her sister: Rena Dennis-Cornelius on February 11. 2013. 

She is survived by her sister: Mary Lee Teague, of the home in Frederick, Ok as well as many nieces and nephews who considered her Mom..
