Doris Allene (Bickham) Brooks, 95, of Huntsville, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at Mary Rutan Hospital, surrounded by family. Doris was born on April 16, 1930, in Huntsville, to the late Flossie V. (Swartz) and Herbert H. Bickham. Upon meeting her beloved husband, C. Eugene "Gene" Brooks, she recalls going skating at the Indian Lake Rollerena and watching a movie at the Holland Theater in Bellefontaine every week with him. They later married on September 11, 1948, in Kentucky. Growing up, Doris loved to ride the work horses on her family's farm. Her favorite childhood memory was taking sleds down the sidewalk at the Huntsville School. Doris was a 1948 graduate of the Huntsville School with a class of 24 students. After high school, Doris attended Bliss Business College in Columbus. She began her career working working in Downtown Bellefontaine and later worked at Detroit Aluminum and Brass (DAB), where she retired in April of 1993. Upon retirement, Doris loved painting and working outdoors. She also loved caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris is survived by her children, Steve (Peg) Brooks, Keith Brooks, and Susan (Bart) Green; grandchildren, Keith (Dawn) Brooks, Shawn, Jesse, and James Brooks, Jennifer (Brian) Slusher, Elizabeth (Steve) Fox, Jaime (Nick) Tucci, Carrie Connelly, and Ryan Weber; great- grandchildren, Kitty Brooks, Zachary Slusher, Jordan (Brooke) Slusher, Kyle and Allison Fox, Ashten (JP Weitzel) Richards, Kayla Richards, Macy Green, and Karis and William Connelly; great-great-grandchildren, Hayden and Jaxon Slusher, and Riley Weitzel; step-grandchildren, Dustin Green, Austin (Sierra) Green, and Jessica (Mitchell) Rohrs; step-great-grandchildren, Henry, Maria, and Aiden Rohrs, Lydia and Vivian Green; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, C. Eugene "Gene" Brooks; brothers, Vernon (Donna Mae) and Harold (Sharon) Bickham; sister, Velma Kaiser; daughter-in-law Cheryl Brooks; and grandson, Scott Brooks. A Graveside Service will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, August 14th, 2025, at Highland Memorial Cemetery-Gazebo, 5591 US Route 68 South, West Liberty, OH 43357.
