Doris Sue Cobb, 86, of Jacksonville, passed away on Sunday January 8, 2023 at her home.

She was born and raised in the Roy Webb Community and lived her whole life within a few miles of her birthplace. She dearly loved her home and family. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1955 and married the love of her life, Bruce Cobb, the same year.  They built a home on Foster West Road in 1973 where she resided for 50 ears. She was preceded in death by Bruce in 2020.  They were married 65 ½ years. Her goal in life was to do whatever it took to help her family. She had a golden rule as her children and grandchildren grew up, “Apply yourself”.

Doris was employed at Anniston Army Depot for 25 years in the upholstery shop and also a key punch operator.  She truly appreciated her job, saying it got her out of the cotton patch and always said God had blessed her. She enjoyed 28 wonderful years of retirement with her husband.

Doris loved to have a garden and often said they’d had a garden ever year of their marriage, canning and preserving food.  In earlier years, she sewed for her family and helped her husband in his upholstery business.

Doris loved the Lord Jesus and was saved at 19 years of age.  She had thought she was a good, moral person until she realized she needed Christ. She was a member of Asberry Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce V. Cobb; grandson: Jesse L. Cobb; parents: Joe and Martha Bonds Couch; sisters: Eula Mae Garrick and Dasie Wilson; and her brothers: Alton Couch and William Couch.

She is survived by her daughter: Myra (Ronnie) Maddox; son: Vernon (Felecia) Cobb; sister: Serre Tisdale; grandchildren: Ashley (David) Caughran, Joe (Brittney) Cobb, Adam (Stefanie) Maddox; and two great grandchildren: Linley Cobb and Mya Rose Caughran. She was looking forward to the arrival of a third great granddaughter, Maddie Sue Caughran, in March.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 2:00 pm from Dansby Heritage Chapel with Rev. Jeff McElroy and Rev. Frank Haynie officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Piedmont Memory Garden.
