Doris Covington Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edwards Funeral Home - Mount Gilead on Mar. 30, 2026.
Doris Burroughs Covington, 100, of Asheboro, formerly of Mt. Gilead, died Sunday evening, March 29, 2026, at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Sharon Cemetery. Rev. Kevin Taylor will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home of Mt. Gilead.

Mrs. Covington was born November 18, 1925, in Richmond County to the late Clyde Wade and Julia Marie Lefler Burroughs. She was a retiree of Evans Rest Home and a member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead.

Doris enjoyed spending time with family and often reminisced about family gatherings and the times they shared while growing up. Doris will be remembered for her love of flowers and gardening, as well as the hours she spent canning fruits and vegetables, and making her delicious sweet pickles. She was an avid baker preparing cakes and breads, Christmas cookies, and her much-anticipated cheese straws for family and friends to enjoy.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Edward Alton Covington, and her brothers and sister: Clyde Burroughs Jr. (Mozelle), Howard Burroughs (Sophie), Lacy Burroughs (Linda), Eugene Burroughs (Virginia), James Burroughs (Katholene), and Edna Hatley King (Curtis) (Cline).

She is survived by her nephews and nieces: Michael Burroughs (Kim), Julia Beth Hall (John), Kevin Burroughs (Karen), Karen Lowder (George), and Len Burroughs (Mandy).

The family will be eternally grateful to her devoted caregivers-Emma, Vickie, Lindsey, and Courtney-for the love and care provided during her declining health.

Memorials may be made to Randolph Hospice House, 446 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203, or First Baptist Church, PO Box 207, Mt. Gilead, NC 27306.
